AWA Research and Development Award

The 2006 Australian Water Association South Australian Division Research and Development Award was presented to Optimatics for its work in developing OptiFlush, a water pipe flushing tool that uses genetic algorithm search techniques to identify management plans for flushing water mains.

This tool enables engineers to save time in modelling how best to operate hydrants and valves for effective flushing. In the field, the tool ensures site works are carried out with maximum efficiency.

Consumers also benefit because the hydraulic modeling behind the OptiFlush tool ensures the maximum number of pipes are flushed to maximize removal of sediments and pipe wall deposits.

OptiFlush was successfully delivered in September 2006 to United Utilities North West in the United Kingdom.
